St. Louis Community College students and staff active with campus Phi Theta Kappa honor society chapters have received recognition for excellence at the recent Missouri Regional Phi Theta Kappa Convention in Independence, Mo.
Meramec’s Xi Lambda chapter won the following awards: Marina Allen, Distinguished Chapter President; James Egan, Distinguished Chapter Officer; Chapter Officer Team Award; Great Idea Award for implementation of Civics Week; Scholarship Hallmark Award; Service Hallmark Award; 5 Star Status; and Leadership Hallmark Award. Additionally, Vincent Hayden was elected to serve as the Missouri regional vice president of communications.
Forest Park’s Xi Epsilon chapter received the following awards: Derek Adams, Distinguished Chapter President; Fatine Bouraqqadi, Distinguished Member; 5 Star Status; and Sandra Knight, associate professor in counseling and chapter sponsor, Horizon Award.
Florissant Valley’s Pi Kappa chapter received the following awards: Service Hallmark Award; 5 Star Status; and Tom McGovern, assistant professor in engineering and technology and chapter sponsor, Horizon Award. Joshua Golden was elected to serve as the regional vice president of the Kappa district for the Missouri region.
Wildwood’s new chapter received the following award: Don Babbitt, assistant professor in business/economics/information systems and chapter adviser, Horizon Award.
Founded in 1918 by presidents of two-year colleges in Missouri, Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for two-year institutions. Phi Theta Kappa recognizes and encourages the academic achievement of two-year college students, and provides opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.
The Phi Theta Kappa awards program recognizes chapter members, officers, advisers, college administrators and chapters for excellence in programs that promote the Phi Theta Kappa hallmarks of scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship.
